In Loving Memory of Mickey who left us on August 23, 2026.

On this morning the house was eerily quiet without the familiar sound of Mickey’s little footsteps coming to Jay’s bedside to make sure his favorite person was awake. Anyone who has ever loved a pet knows this kind of emptiness. And for those who have never had a companion like Mickey, it can be difficult to explain just how profound that bond can be. To love a pet and be loved by one is something that words can never fully describe.

Mickey gave his family 17 years of unconditional love; never judging, always happy to see them, and simply content to be by their side. Though he occupied only a small portion of their lives, they were his whole world.

Almost exactly one year ago, while recovering from extensive surgery and a lengthy hospital and rehabilitation stay, Mickey’s Dad, Jay, was told that Mickey had been moping around the house because he wasn’t there. Paulette promptly brought 16-year-old Mickey to visit Jay on the patio at Allied Services. Mickey immediately climbed onto Jay’s lap and stayed there for the entire hour and a half. His paw rested on Jay’s arm the entire time, as if he were saying, “I have you back, and I’m not letting you go again.”

Mickey was so much more than a dog. He was a constant companion, a therapist, a source of comfort, and one of the great joys of his family’s life. He was there when all four grandchildren (Matthew, Cecelia, Eliza, and Isabelle) were born, and he seemed to understand just how special they were, sharing in their excitement whenever they were together.

17 years with Mickey will forever be one of the brightest chapters in our memory book.
