In Loving Memory of Zeus

Describing Zeus as “just a good dog” would be an understatement, to say the least. He wasn’t perfect, but in our eyes, he was the best boy.

Zeus had a way of making everyone feel like they were his person. Whenever someone walked through the door, the way he acknowledged their presence, you would have thought he had known them since he was a puppy. And the moment he heard the refrigerator open, his paws would come rushing into the kitchen. In Zeus’s world, every cold drink came with a mandatory puppy tax.

We didn’t adopt Zeus until he was about a year and a half old, around the same age as Sheba was at the time, maybe a little older. From the beginning, the two of them were inseparable. Whether they were racing up and down the stairs, running from fence to fence in the backyard, or simply curled up together on the living room couch or in our beds (never our parents’ beds). 

Zeus was special. He may not have been perfect, but he had only known pain as a pup. From the moment he became ours, it was our responsibility to show him that life could be different to give him the happiest, safest, and most loving life we possibly could. And we hope he knew just how deeply he was loved.

It has been three full days since we lost Zeus, and somehow, it still doesn’t feel real. The house feels different without him. We miss his presence, his happy greetings, his love of walks, and most of all, the way he loved nothing more than cuddling with his family. Zeus had a big heart and an even bigger place in ours. He was loved, he was cherished, and he was home.

May your soul finally rest eternally and peacefully, sweet boy. Thank you for every walk, every cuddle, every puppy tax, and every memory you gave us. We love you, buddy.
