Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding Pet Aquamation & Aftercare
What is pet aquamation?
Pet aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis, is a gentle, water-based alternative to traditional pet cremation. This process uses warm water and natural alkalinity to return your pet’s body to its natural elements in a peaceful and environmentally friendly way. Many families in Clarks Summit, Scranton, and throughout NEPA are choosing aquamation for its softness and sustainability.
How is aquamation different from cremation?
Unlike flame-based cremation, aquamation does not use fire. It is a slower, more natural process that produces no harmful emissions. Families often feel aquamation is a more comforting and eco-conscious option for their pet’s final care.
Is aquamation safe and respectful?
Yes. Aquamation is a highly respectful process used in both human and pet aftercare. At Aspen Meadows, every pet is handled with dignity, care, and compassion throughout the entire process.

Aquamation Services & Options
What types of aquamation do you offer?
We offer three options:
- Private aquamation – your pet is the only animal in the system
- Semi-private aquamation – pets are separated but processed in the same cycle
- Communal aquamation – pets are respectfully processed together, and remains are not returned
Will I receive my pet’s remains?
Yes. With private and semi-private aquamation, you will receive only your pet’s remains in a personalized urn. Communal aquamation does not include the return of remains but contributes to local tree-planting efforts.
Can I spend time with my pet before aquamation?
Yes. We offer private goodbye sessions in a peaceful, comfortable setting, allowing you to say farewell in your own way.
How long does the aquamation process take?
The timing can vary depending on the services selected. Our team will clearly communicate timelines and keep you informed throughout the process.
